Foolishness or Faith?

What does God want from those of us who follow Him? Without faith, God tells us, it is impossible to please Him (see Hebrews 11:6).

But just what is faith? Is it pushing down feelings of doubt or squelching our questions and gutting it out as we repeat out loud, “I believe, I believe, I believe”? Or is it a vague fluttering in our hearts as we consider what we strongly wish would happen?

Faith, I’ve learned, is a mysterious process of following the voice of God, accompanied by hard work and wisdom. We step out in faith with engaged hearts as we pursue God’s wisdom and ideals, which He whispers to us as we seek Him. Clay and I had begun our marriage on the premise that God had a work for our family to do to bring His Kingdom to bear in real life. That certainty fueled the faith that enabled us to launch our family ministry and the Mom Heart Conferences. I believe God wants each of us to have the privilege of living by faith and watching Him work. It is His desire to respond personally to all of us who are His.

Owning your faith means recognizing that your life belongs to God and then asking Him what work He wants to do through you. Each person and family has a story to tell. If you “seek first the Kingdom,” you will leave your unique mark on your world and on the people who long to know more about Him. But you must pave the pathway by first stepping out, and then by following God’s Word and His promptings by faith.
